Can’t see strikes on steel at 1000 yards. The turrets turn very hard and numbers are small for old eyes. Makes me wonder if this is truly a Vortex or a knock off? I’m comparing with a $4k NF so maybe not fair?

I’m a big Fan of Vortex products and have many of them from red dots, binocs and scopes and am very happy with all my purchase’s except the Vortex razor HD. Compared to my Vortex Viper PST gen 2, the Vortex strike eagle and even my Vortex diamondback 4-16×44 there was absolutely no difference in optical quality concerning light transmission, clarity, definition or contrast. Don’t get me wrong, this is still a top tier optic and is very well made but not double the $ and no noticeable difference.
The “external rotation indicator” is a nothing more than a “golly gee wizz gizmo” that is totally worthless and the way I see it is if you need to dial up the elevation that far and can’t keep a mental picture of where your elevation is (look at the turret) then this little “gizmo” is not going to help at other than adding cost to the scope and is useless.
My best guess is that factoring in the excessive cost of the scope is it’s place of origin and the high labor cost with no noticeable difference as to the other Vortex scopes that are made in China and the Philippines and that this scope is only worth $1300- $1400 max or whatever your willing to pay for it.
Unfortunately, I was disappointed with my purchase of the razor and this is the only time I have ever return a Vortex product that the quality and performance don’t justify the price.

Best scope for the money. You just can’t beat it!!

Pros:
The scope is quite clear and bright. I don’t need my glassed on to use it. The turrets are nice and very audible click and at the same time you can feel each clicks. I don’t need spotting scope for the 100-300 yards range. Is the only access-able to my area for now. Oh! did I mention the Life Time Warranty!
Cons:
The only problem I have with this scope is the zero set screws loosening twice. I am tempted to use loc-tite on screws.. but with the cost of this unit, it shouldn’t have to be. Also the zero turrets are free-spins (no clicks) when adjusting, but it’s no big deal as long as it’s remain set once zeroed.
Besides the set screws, weight, zero turrets…. I would have given a 5 stars.

Excellent scope, precision made, high quality, extremely accurate. I have read all over the Internet and had countless people say buy once cry once. Well to be honest with this scope it was buy once and still a reasonable price. Vortex competes with your “top companies” they are giving them a run for their money. Yes this scope was about 3k all said and done (scope rings, eye caps (it comes with some but they are basic), and level), but other companies I could have spent 4 to 6k for the same. This scope easially can reach 1500 yards (assuming you have a rifle that can reach that range). So yes, buy once cry once is a thing of the past. You can still buy once, but I feel vortex has definitly hit a sweet spot for price where I don’t feel I was taken advantage of. I would definitly recommend this to others. With a lifetime warranty and no foreseeable issues with the manufacturing, this is definitly a scope I’ll have for life. If you’re still going should I buy this or a Leupold…. I have shot through both and see no real reason to spend another 1 to 2k more. I will give the glass aspect to Leopold, their glass is nicer (when it’s lab tested with machines and all that). But to your naked eye, zero difference. The vortex lenses don’t fog, I don’t see any distortion, crystal clear, and no imperfections. I totally understand people have their opinions (buy a Lamborghini or a Ferrari) both these scopes are top knot check, buy what your heart desires. This is just my opinion on this scope. I am happy with it.

This is a very nice optic. Glass is excellent. I would have given it 5 stars but I have a couple of problems with it, especially given the $2500 price tag. First, the cheap lens covers that came with it were cracked, right out of the box. I considered those throw away, so not a big deal. That is until I purchased the Vortex lens covers, which are pure garbage. I had to glue the throw aways just so I have something to cover the lenses. You would think that Vortex would have lens caps similar to Leupold, which are high quality, machined, metal covers with magnetic clasps. The Leupold ones thread on. These rubber boot type Vortex makes remind me of the cheap Butler Creek ones, suitable for a Tasco, but not a $2500 optic. Very disappointed from that aspect. Maybe their are better options that I haven’t explored yet, but that’s where I’m at. When you spend $2500, you want to be thrilled with your purchase. This just took the wind out of my sails.

I have a $2000 Valdada on my 338 lapua and I was thinking of getting another for my 308 but I was just so drawn to the vortex. I see the price went up for the vortex. When I purchased it, it was for $2500. I shot the Valdada at 1000yards and I could see the vapor trail to the target. I shot the vortex only upto 850yards but could not see any vapor trails. With that said I still had a 2″ grouping with the Vortex. I was super impressed. I love the stiff locking turrets and the way it’s built like a tank. I think the Valdada is a better scope but I would not by it again. If I was to purchase another scope it would be another Vortex Razor HD and screw it on my little wimpy hunting rifle. 🙂 I just love them. OK so to help you decide , if you are looking at shooting small targets at long distances like 1000 yards and your going to be in the prone position then I recommend this scope. If you are going to drag your gear and abuse it , I recommend this scope. If you like an image that’s just really nice and easy to get behind there might be something out there for the same price but I’m very satisfied and I am difficult to satisfy. I can’t say anything about the warranty but from what I read they have the best warranty in the business.
